About Karen

After teaching health in Africa, I became very interested in reproducitve health. When I returned to the US, I started my Masters in Public Health, concentrating in maternal and child health. I realized, though, that I was more suited to be directly involved in maternal care. My professors encouraged me to look into midwifery. So started my midwifery journey.

I started my apprenticeship in December 2010 where I worked in a practice that averaged about 3 births a month. Wishing to supplement my apprenticeship with academics, I started Birthwise Midwifery School in July 2012. I, then, finished my apprenticeship in January 2013 and have been working with another midwife since then. I will finish out my academic courses in August 2014 at Birthwise and plan to take the NARM in the fall 2014 to finish out my certification.

I do offer full midwifery care under supervision of a CPM. Between my apprenticeships and my schooling, I feel well rounded and ready to care for women and excited to get my paperwork submitted to take my exam!
