About Miriam

Dear Friends,

After 32 wonderful years of attending births in Massachusetts I have moved back to my home state of California.  Thank you to all of the families I have been fortunate to get to know through prenatal care, labor and birth, postpartum care or through consultation.  You have all enriched my life immensely.  I hope you will visit me if you are ever in northern California.  Best Wishes,  Miriam

I first heard of homebirth and midwives when I was seventeen and with a jolt of recognition knew what I wanted to do with my life.  Friends invited me to their births, deepening my conviction and appreciation of the process and beauty of natural birth.  I attended college, moved from California to Massachusetts (!) and continued my midwifery studies, apprenticing for 2 1/2 years with two highly experienced and respected midwives.

I believe in supporting and nurturing women in their pregnancies: giviing plenty of time during prenatal care to talk, discuss options, ask questions, and prepare for a healthy and joyful birth and postpartum.  I believe when we nurture the mama and the family, we support the baby's entrance into this life to be gentle, respectful, peaceful and healthy.  It is one way, my way, to contribute to making this world a better place.  Every woman deserves to be well cared for and every baby deserves to be cherished.

I have been attending homebirths in Massachusetts since 1981 and am a founding member of the Massachusetts Midwives Alliance.  I've been a CPM since 1997 and currently serve on the Board of Directors for the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM).  Both of my children were born at home into the helping heart and hands of midwives.
